Downtime was a British alternative rock band formed in 1992 by vocalist and guitarist Josh Joplin, bassist Stewart Boyle, and drummer Ed Chamberlain. They released their debut single 'Monkey' in 1995, which became a hit in the UK.
Their sound mixed rock with electronic elements, and they followed 'Monkey' with albums like 'Downtime' in 1996, 'Another Day' in 1998, and 'Into the Light' in 2000. The lineup changed over time, with other members including guitarist Rob Hobbs and drummer Adrian Oxborrow.
They also released a cover of Prince's 'Nothing Compares (To You)' as a single, which led to some copyright issues. A compilation called 'Best of Downtime' came out in 2003.
