The band's name came from the soft fabric, which they felt matched the kind of music they wanted to make.
In 2007, Downy canceled a concert in Israel, citing the regional conflict, which led to some public debate about artists and politics. They kept recording through it, putting out 'Diz Pra Mim' in 2008 and 'Detona' after that.
