Draconis formed in the late 1990s after guitarist Damien Orion, bassist Ethan Erebos, and drummer Lysander Hades came together from a previous metal band. Their debut album 'Alongside Subconscious Souls of Eternity' arrived in 2002 with intricate compositions and philosophical themes that found an audience. The band's early material included songs like 'Beckonings From a Distant Void' and 'Beneath The Dismal Aura Of Stormfog' that established their sound.
Erebos eventually left the band and was replaced by bassist Lilith Seraphina. Draconis continued working through the 2000s, though their lyrics about darker themes sometimes drew criticism. In 2010, they were involved in a tour bus accident that injured several members.
