A Canadian electro-pop trio that defined a certain moment in dance-oriented music.
For the early synth-pop feel, 'I Get Around' still holds up. Later tracks like 'Take It Like A Man' show where the sound went.
Their debut single 'I Get Around' got Canadian radio play in 2005 and set the template: synth-driven pop with Sorbara's vocals floating over the top. Songs like 'Take It Like A Man' and 'Boys & Girls' show how they kept that electro-pop approach while leaning into more dance-oriented territory. It was the kind of sound that defined a specific electronic pop moment.
Dragonette formed in 2005 with Martina Sorbara, Dan Kurtz, and Will Stapleton. They released a self-titled album in 2007, followed by 'Fixin to Thrill' in 2011 and 'Body Parts' in 2014. By 2016, Kurtz and Stapleton had left the group.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
