Editor's note

D.R.I. started in Houston with a raw thrash-punk mix.

The band Dirty Rotten Imbeciles kept an aggressive sound through lineup changes and controversial lyrics.

For a sense of their early style, 'Couch Slouch' holds up. 'Enemy Within' gives you a taste of how they kept at it.

Their 1985 album 'Dealing with It!' had a raw thrash and hardcore blend that caught on with a certain crowd. Songs like 'Couch Slouch' and 'Think For Yourself' show what they were doing early on. Later tracks like 'Enemy Within' kept up with their general approach, and they're still playing shows with original members Kurt Brecht and Spike Cassidy.

They started in Houston in 1982 with Kurt Brecht on vocals and Spike Cassidy on guitar. Their first album was 'Dealing with It!' in 1985, and they put out records like 'Crossover' in 1987 and 'Thrash Zone' in 1989. The lineup changed over time, but their sound stayed aggressive.

D.R.I. (Dirty Rotten Imbeciles) started in Houston in 1982 with Kurt Brecht on vocals, Spike Cassidy and Dennis Johnson on guitars, Josh Pappe on bass, and Felix Griffin on drums. Their first album, 'Dealing with It!' from 1985, had a raw mix of thrash, hardcore, and punk that caught on with a certain crowd. Songs like 'Think For Yourself' and 'Couch Slouch' from that period show what they were doing early on.

They kept putting out records through the late '80s and '90s, including 'Crossover' in 1987 and 'Thrash Zone' in 1989. The lineup changed over time, with Rob Rampy and Walter Ryan eventually joining on bass and drums. Their sound stayed aggressive but picked up bits of other styles along the way.

Some of their lyrics got them into trouble. The song 'Abduction' from 'Crossover' dealt with alien abductions and government cover-ups, which stirred up debate. They had their share of friction with labels too.

Later tracks like 'Enemy Within' and 'Balance Of Terror' kept up with their general approach. They're still playing shows with Brecht and Cassidy from the original group.
