Drift 16

Drift 16 came out of Belo Horizonte, Brazil, with a sound that mixed rock, electronic, and world music. Their debut album in 2008 was called As Estrelas, and the title track became their most recognizable song.

Lucas Silvestre wrote the lyrics and sang lead, often using cosmic imagery. Bruno Botelho played guitar, Diogo Andrade was on bass, and Gustavo Pimenta drummed. They put out three more albums after that first one: Caminhos da Alma in 2011, Até o Fim do Mundo in 2014, and O Último Voo in 2017.

Their work with a major label caused some debate among listeners about whether they were staying true to their sound. The band's music tended to avoid easy genre labels, which sometimes drew criticism from purists who preferred things more straightforward.
