Drifter

Drifter formed in London in the late 1970s, with William "Billy" Banner on vocals and guitar, Ricky "Rat" Taylor on bass, and Paul "Pistol" Pratt on drums. Their sound pulled from punk and hard rock, but with more intricate arrangements than most bands in that scene. They put out albums like "Ironbound" and "Banners of Resistance."

Their track "Banners on the Battlefield" became a signature song, though its lyrics drew some criticism at the time. Other songs like "Burning Circles" and "Concrete Jungle" showed their tendency toward darker, introspective themes. Their live shows were known for being intense, with Banner's stage presence a particular draw.

By the mid-1980s, the band's profile had faded somewhat, but their earlier work continued to find listeners. They're remembered for that specific late-70s London rock sound that was both aggressive and oddly thoughtful.
