Drullis formed in Rio de Janeiro in the 1990s when vocalist Drika Barbosa and guitarist Marcelo Martins started playing together. Their 1998 debut album "Sentimentos" brought them attention in Brazil.
In 2002, a leaked nude photo of Barbosa created a media scandal. She responded by speaking about sexism and body positivity, which shifted some of the conversation around the band.
Their song "Pense Em Você" became one of their better-known tracks. The band's music generally mixed pop and rock with Brazilian rhythms, though the lineup and sound remained fairly consistent over time.
