Drupi is the stage name of Giampiero Anelli, who came from Pavia, Italy. He started performing in local bars and clubs as a teenager. In 1973, record producer Giancarlo Bigazzi noticed his voice and began working with him.
His first single "Vado via" came out in 1975, but it was the 1976 ballad "Sereno È" that made him known internationally. The song did well on charts in Italy, Switzerland, and France, and found listeners in South America and Asia too.
Drupi kept recording through the late 1970s with songs like "Buona notte" and "Un'altra v". He had a quiet, somewhat private manner that sometimes led to talk about his personality, separate from the music itself.
