Editor's note

Dååth's technical metal from Baltimore

A progressive death metal band that balanced atmospheric shifts with brutal precision.

For a good sense of their range, check out 'Cosmic Forge' for the brutal side and something from '.Of Poisoned Sorrows' for the atmospheric shift. It's all there in those two poles.

They took their name from an ancient Sumerian word for 'knowledge,' which set a tone for their dense, technical approach. Songs like 'Cosmic Forge' and 'Genocidal Maniac' showed their heavier side, while their 2009 album '.Of Poisoned Sorrows' introduced more atmospheric elements. Signing with Roadrunner Records in 2004 put them in a bigger spotlight, even if some fans questioned the move at the time.

They came out of Baltimore and released albums like 'Futility' in 2004 and 'The Hinderers' in 2007. By 2009's '.Of Poisoned Sorrows,' they were incorporating more progressive and atmospheric sounds alongside tracks that kept their technical death metal roots. The band disbanded in 2016 after their final album 'Atoma' in 2013.

Dååth came out of Baltimore, Maryland, and took their name from an ancient Sumerian word for 'knowledge.' They signed with Roadrunner Records in 2004, which drew some criticism from fans at the time. Their albums included 'Futility' in 2004, 'The Hinderers' in 2007, '...Of Poisoned Sorrows' in 2009, and 'Atoma' in 2013.

Their 2009 album '...Of Poisoned Sorrows' gave them one of their most recognizable songs. The album showed a shift toward more atmospheric and progressive elements compared to their earlier work. Other tracks like 'Genocidal Maniac' and 'Cosmic Forge' represented their heavier, more technical side.

The band featured musicians including vocalist Sean Murphy, guitarists Eyal Levi and Jeremy Creamer, bassist Mike Kameron, and drummer Kevin Talley. They disbanded in 2016.
