Dubbel En Dwars came together in Arnhem in the early 1980s, with Bertus Borgers on vocals, Hans Teeuwen on guitar, Romain van der Weele on bass, and Hans van den Berg on drums. Their 1981 single 'Geile Bertus' became a national hit in the Netherlands, giving them a sudden burst of attention.
They followed with songs like 'De Dood' and 'De Laatste Socialist,' mixing humor with social observation. Their lyrics sometimes drew criticism for being explicit, and in 1985 they faced legal trouble over the song 'Schiet 'm Kapot.'
After a few more releases, including 'De Stoelen Van Belang' and 'Generaals In Vredestijd,' the band's run wound down. They left behind a handful of records that still turn up at Dutch parties and on local radio.
