Dubmatique formed in Mauritius in 2002 around vocalist Ian Permal, bassist Michel Legris, guitarist Stephan Augustin, and drummer Bruno Raya. Their debut album 'Mo Lamour' came out in 2005, with the single 'Authentiques' becoming particularly resonant for Mauritian youth. Permal's lyrics often addressed social and political themes, which sometimes drew criticism and led to performance bans and equipment confiscations.

Their music blends reggae, rock, and Mauritian rhythms across albums like 'Sekiz Mil,' 'Empreintes,' and 'Enn Nouvo Zordi.' Songs like 'Dire' and 'La Vie Est Si Fragile' show their range. They've collaborated with artists including Jamaican reggae singer Beres Hammond and performed at festivals like Glastonbury.
