Duncan Townsend

Duncan Townsend first gained attention in the early 2000s as part of the band Oceansize, which received some critical notice but didn't break through commercially. He left that group in 2007 and began working under the name The Devin Townsend Project, releasing his first solo album 'Ki' around that time.

His 2009 album 'Addicted!' brought wider recognition, largely on the strength of the single 'Go! Go!' The song's big, melodic hooks and Townsend's vocal delivery connected with listeners in a way his earlier work hadn't. He's since released a considerable amount of material across different styles, from rock and metal to more experimental electronic sounds.

Townsend has been open about dealing with bipolar disorder, which he was diagnosed with in 2010. He's spoken about how the condition affected his work and life, and he's occasionally made pointed comments about the music industry that have drawn both support and criticism.
