DVK formed in Madrid in the early 2000s when Javi and Max met in a music studio. They started making what people called melancholic indie music, with Javi handling vocals and lyrics while Max played bass. Drummer Ale joined them to complete the trio. Their first album came out in 2006 under the title "Desterrados." They followed it with "Filosofía de vida" in 2009 and "La vida es un ratico" in 2014.

Their song "Why" gives a sense of what they do, lyrics that lean toward introspection over straightforward storytelling, set against arrangements that feel more atmospheric than aggressive. They built a following through touring, mostly sticking to the independent circuit rather than chasing major label deals. Over time, they became one of those bands that Spanish indie listeners point to when talking about that particular strain of moody, early-2000s guitar music.

There were rumors about internal tensions and some criticism of their darker themes, but what stuck was the music itself. They kept a relatively stable lineup and a consistent sound across those albums, avoiding big stylistic shifts. For a certain audience, that consistency was the point.
