Dwight Yoakam came out of Pikeville, Kentucky in 1956, and later moved to Los Angeles. He started with a debut album called "Guitars, Cadillacs, Etc., Etc." in 1984, followed by records like "Buenas Noches from a Lonely Room" and "Hillbilly Deluxe." His voice had a twangy, nasal quality that became familiar.
One of his songs from that period, "The Back of Your Hand," appeared on "Hillbilly Deluxe" in 1989. Other tracks like "It Won't Hurt" and "A Heart Like Mine" show up in his catalog. In the early 1990s, there was some legal trouble over a song called "Honky Tonk Man," which eventually worked out for him.
