Dz-9 started as a band called Dr. Zero in Rio de Janeiro in the late 1970s. The original lineup included Fabio Soares on vocals, Marcelo Nova on guitar, Billy Brandão on bass, Mario Iorio on drums, and Claudio Souza on keyboards. They played small clubs around the city for a few years before things changed.
In 1981, they released the song "Garota," which became a hit in Brazil. The track featured Soares' vocals over a catchy melody that caught on with listeners. That same year, they put out their first album, also called "Dr. Zero."
They followed up with albums like "Cultura" in 1982 and "Hoje" in 1985. Other songs from that period include "Minha Razão" and "Saia da Rotina." Soares has remained with the band through various lineup changes over time.
