E-Girl Botadão

E-Girl Botadão came together in São Paulo in the early 2010s, with Jhoony Otaku Viado as frontman alongside guitarist Alice Birosca, bassist Duda Braço-Forte, and drummer Leo Perninha. They started as friends trying out different sounds, but things shifted when they put out 'Jhoony Otaku Viado' in 2015. That track got attention for its melody and lyrics about an otaku who doesn't fit in, and it split listeners between those who saw it as a statement on individuality and those who called it offensive.

Their debut album 'Viadagem Lunar' arrived in 2016, mixing funk, hip-hop, and electronic elements. Later records like 'Fumaça do Cão' and 'Mulheres de Verdade' kept that experimental approach going. The band's style often drew from pop culture, queer themes, and Brazilian folklore, with a collaborative process where each member brought ideas to the table.

Their stage presence and lyrics brought them into conflict with conservative groups and officials, leading to censorship and threats. They kept playing through that, sticking to their message about tolerance and self-acceptance. While their music sparked debates, it also connected with listeners looking for something outside the mainstream.
