Earth's 1993 debut 'Sunn Amps and Smashed Guitars' established a drone-heavy approach that drew from Black Sabbath and the Velvet Underground but moved at its own glacial pace. Their 1996 album 'Earth 2: Special Low Frequency Version' became a touchstone for experimental heavy music. Songs like 'From The Zodiacal Light' demonstrate how they built entire worlds from a few sustained notes.
Formed in Seattle in 1990 with guitarist Dylan Carlson as the constant member. Their sound evolved from the raw drone of early recordings to the more spacious, Western-tinged atmosphere of 2005's 'Hex; Or Printing in the Infernal Method'.
