Earth and Fire formed in the Netherlands in 1969 with vocalist Gerard Koerts, guitarist Chris Koerts, bassist Hans Ziech, and drummer Ton van der Kleij. They released their self-titled debut album in 1970, followed by 'Song of the Marching Children' in 1971 and 'Atlantis' in 1973. Their music mixed rock with classical touches and theatrical live shows.

They had some commercial success with singles like 'Weekend' in 1979. The band broke up in 1983. Gerard Koerts died in 2018.
