Earthling

Earthling formed in the early 1990s with Niall Gibson on vocals, Paul Ferguson on guitar, and Steven Wilson on keyboards. Their first album came out in 1994, simply called Earthling, and included the track "An Angel Comes To Babylon." They followed it with Superstition in 1996, Dark Light in 1998, and Clock Tower in 2000.

Their music pulled from ambient, electronica, and progressive rock, creating atmospheric textures that felt both spacious and detailed. Songs like "Ananda's theme" and "Haunted Head" show how they could build mood without leaning too hard on conventional song structures.

Some listeners found their approach too esoteric or questioned their authenticity, but Earthling kept working in their own lane. They didn't chase trends or try to smooth out their sound for wider appeal. The band's catalog holds up as a consistent, if somewhat niche, body of work from that era.
