Ectoplasma formed in Porto Alegre in 1982 with Eduardo Rambo and Pedro Schneider on vocals and guitar and bass, Carlos DuFex on drums, and Frederico Cunha on keyboards. They put out just two studio albums, 1986's 'Memórias' and 1989's 'Dançando nas Trevas,' before disbanding.

Their sound was hard to pin down, mixing post-punk and gothic rock with some electronic touches. The song 'Bons Momentos' from their first album became something of an anthem for listeners who connected with their moody, cryptic lyrics. Other tracks like 'Como Você Sempre Quis' and 'Fantasia' carried that same atmospheric quality.

Live shows were known for being intense and a bit theatrical, which drew a dedicated following. The band split up after their second album, but those two records kept finding listeners long after they were gone.
