Ed Sousa grew up in Niterói, Brazil, where he heard plenty of samba and bossa nova. He started singing with a band called Romance in the late 1980s, and their self-titled debut album did well enough that he went solo a few years later. His first solo record in 1993 had a song called "Amor Irresistível" that caught on nationally, and it's still the track people know him for.
He kept recording through the 1990s and 2000s, putting out albums like "Irresistível" and "Ao Vivo." Other songs like "Os Céus Aqui" and "Teu Amor Vem Como Um Rio" show the same kind of straightforward romantic balladry that made "Amor Irresistível" work. There was some talk about plagiarism in the early 2000s, but he kept making music afterward.
Most of his catalog is built around that clear, melodic style. He hasn't released much new material in the last decade, but the older songs still turn up on Brazilian radio and playlists.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
