In 1966, Floyd released "Knock On Wood," which became a soul standard and reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100.

His catalog includes songs like "634-5789" and "Bring it on home to me," which have been covered by artists including Wilson Pickett and Otis Redding. Floyd continued recording through the 1970s and 1980s, putting out albums and singles that maintained his soul and R&B sound.

He received the Rhythm and Blues Foundation Pioneer Award and was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
