Eddie Youngblood

Eddie Youngblood was born in 1945 in Alexandria, Louisiana, where he grew up hearing blues and honky-tonk music. He started playing in his teens with a band called The Chosen Ones, performing at local clubs. In 1967 he signed with RCA Records and released his self-titled debut album the next year.

That album included 'Always On My Mind,' which became a country standard covered by many other artists. Youngblood kept recording through the 1970s and 1980s, putting out albums like 'Wildfire' and 'Heartbreak Troubadour.' His music later found listeners in the 1990s alt-country scene.

He struggled with substance abuse and personal issues that sometimes overshadowed his work. But the songs he wrote and recorded, particularly early material like 'Always On My Mind,' have outlasted those troubles.
