Eddú Camargo

Eddú Camargo formed his band in 1995 with guitarist Márcio Mallard, bassist Luizinho Santos, and drummer Serginho Silva. They came together in Rio de Janeiro, where Camargo had moved after growing up in Laguna, Santa Catarina. Their sound pulled from samba, funk, and rock, which felt fairly common for the time, but they found their own lane with it.

Their 1997 debut album included the song "Amor de Abelha e Zangão," which became a hit. It was a ballad about forbidden love that caught on nationally. Other tracks like "Dinamite" and "Paixão de Cama" showed their range, from energetic to more intimate. The band's performances sometimes stirred things up, like a 2000 show where they appeared in drag, which drew criticism from more conservative listeners.

Camargo kept writing and releasing music that didn't shy away from personal or social themes. Songs like "Pressenter" and "Pura Magia" continued to explore relationships and desire in plain, sometimes provocative language. He became known as an artist who worked outside the usual boundaries, both musically and in how he presented himself on stage.
