Eddy & Gil

Eddy Trombini and Gil Monteiro met in Rio de Janeiro in the late 1960s and started playing small venues together. Their 1971 debut album included 'Demorei Pra Entender,' which became a national hit in Brazil.

They kept recording through the 1970s with albums like 'Quem Vai Dizer' and 'Luz do Sol.' Eddy handled most of the songwriting and vocals, while Gil played guitar and arranged their harmonies. Other songs people remember include 'Me dê a mão' and 'A Noite É Dela.'

Eddy was openly gay at a time when that brought public criticism in Brazil, but their music kept finding listeners anyway. They worked in a space between samba and pop, with lyrics that felt direct and personal rather than flashy.
