Archive material and source history
Eddy Lover is a Dominican singer born Edward Rafael Antigua Abreu in 1984. He started out in Santo Domingo's local sound systems and put out his first album, 'En el Casco Urbano,' in 2001. That record helped push him into the mainstream.
His songs like 'Amor Bonito' and 'Dejame Morir' are built around dembow rhythms. He followed that debut with albums such as 'Los Dueños del Dembow' in 2004 and 'El Fósforo' in 2007. Later tracks like 'Perdóname,' which features La Factoría, and '¿por Qué Será?' kept that sound going.
In 2013, he released the song 'No Debiste Volver,' which became particularly well-known. He put out another album, 'Amanecer Conmigo,' in 2018. His work is part of the Dominican dembow scene that grew out of those Santo Domingo sound systems.
