Evening Prayer (Safe 'Til Morning)

The night closes in

I draw down the fire

Make hold, make safe

For another hight

Door closed and last

Of all, the shutters

My nightly prayer

By candle light

My Pointed finger

Takes in my family

From old to small

Remembered by name

Each wall, each chamber

Wherever they are sleeping

Is brought to you

In Jesus' name

The Spirit's breath

To guard our sleep

And with Thy sword

Our safety brings

You shield our home

With angels' wings

And bring us safe to morning

This simple task

Is mine for the doing

His care and protection

Are there when I ask

Take hold, be safe And secure in His keeping

And rest in the arms

Of the first and the last
