Edgar Gonzalón came from Mascota, Jalisco, where he grew up with the regional sounds of traditional Mexican music. He started singing early, and by 1986 he had a hit with "Quisiera Regresar a Ti," a ballad that caught on quickly and became his best-known song.
He put out albums like "Enamorado" in 1988 and a compilation called "Lo Mejor de Edgar Gonzalón" in 2004. For a while he performed with a group called Edgar Gonzalón y sus Amigos, which included Eduardo González on guitar, Ernesto Ceja on bass, and Armando Raya on drums.
In the early 1990s there were some plagiarism accusations, which he denied. He worked with Vicente Fernández and Alejandro Fernández at different points. His music stayed straightforward, mostly romantic ballads with a traditional Mexican feel, built around his voice.
