Edinho Queirós

Edinho Queirós was born in 1958 in Salgueiro, Pernambuco, a town in Brazil's sertão region. His father played guitar, and the local forró festivals shaped his early musical sense. He wrote songs that drew from the area's folklore and spirituality.

In 1994, he released "A Freira," a ballad about a spectral nun haunting a convent. The song became widely known in Brazil, though its lyrics sparked some debate about religious themes. Queirós maintained it was simply inspired by local stories. Other songs like "Beijo de Sal" and "Sabor de Rum Hortelã Café" also reflect his connection to the sertão.

He recorded several albums, including "De Volta ao Sertão" in 1996 and "Cantador de Histórias" in 2002. His band typically included Zé Viola on accordion, Antônio Flávio on bass, and Mestre Maciel on percussion. Queirós sang and played guitar, keeping the arrangements rooted in traditional Brazilian rhythms.
