Edis Sánchez

Edis Sánchez grew up in San Juan de la Maguana, Dominican Republic, where he heard traditional merengue, bachata, and son from an early age. He later mentioned being inspired by Juan Luis Guerra and Johnny Ventura, but his own music leaned more toward folkloric forms.

In 2004, he released an album called 'Folklórica Dominicana,' with the title track becoming his best-known song. The record mixed older Dominican styles with some contemporary touches, which drew some skepticism at first from listeners who preferred purer traditional sounds.

He kept recording after that, putting out albums like 'Ritmos del Ayer' in 2006 and 'El Son de Mi Tierra' in 2009. His work stayed focused on Dominican folk music, often highlighting regional rhythms and older song forms rather than chasing pop trends.
