Archive material and source history
Edmilsinho e Banda formed in 2002 in Salvador, Bahia, led by percussionist Edmilsinho Gomes Filgueiras. Their sound draws from the local traditions of axé and samba, with a bit of reggae mixed in. They built a following in their region before things took off nationally.
In 2007, they released "Que Vida Boa," a song that became a huge hit across Brazil. Its upbeat rhythm and simple, positive message about enjoying life made it a staple at parties and on the radio. That track remains what most people know them for.
They've put out several albums since, including Ao Vivo no Baile da Barra in 2008 and Energia do Pagode in 2010.
