A Brazilian gospel singer whose songs like 'Barreira' reached churches and homes across the country.
For a sense of his reach, listen to 'Barreira.' If you want something with that Brazilian gospel flavor, 'Crente de Um e Noventa e Nove' works.
Edinaldo do Rio's music mattered because it came straight from Pentecostal churches in Rio de Janeiro and spread beyond them. A song like 'Barreira' found its way into Brazilian homes and congregations. He sometimes mixed gospel with Brazilian popular styles, which didn't sit right with everyone, but it gave his work a particular sound.
He started performing in Pentecostal churches in Rio. Later, he recorded 'Jesus, Cavaleiro do Céu,' which became widely known in Christian circles, and worked with a band that included André do Rio on drums and Paulo do Rio on bass.
