Edu Magalhães started writing songs in Salvador, Bahia, drawing from samba rhythms and Brazilian songwriters like Caetano Veloso and Gilberto Gil. His first album, Tudo Passa, came out in 2001. The title track from his 2006 album Amores Imortais became his most recognizable song, with its melody and lyrics connecting with listeners.
In 2010, Magalhães faced plagiarism accusations over a melody in one of his songs, which sparked some public discussion about artistic inspiration. He kept making music through it, putting out albums like A Vida É Boa Assim and Eu Sou o Samba. Other songs in his catalog include Porta de Bar and Essa Bandida.
Magalhães has also used his platform to speak up for LGBTQ+ rights and environmental causes. His discography runs through 2018 with Amor de Verdade.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
