Born in Salvador in 1943, his early exposure to samba and bossa nova shaped his approach. He released a series of albums titled with Roman numerals, starting with his self-titled debut in 1967 and following with Eduardo Araújo II in 1970. He died in 1991 from complications related to AIDS.
