Edvaldo Sá is a Brazilian musician from Rio de Janeiro who came up playing samba in the city's streets. His father was a guitarist, and that early exposure to the music's rhythms stuck with him.
In the 1980s, he worked with producer João Donato, who was known for mixing samba with jazz. They made several albums together. Sá went solo in 1990 with an album called "Tá Na Hora." The next year, he put out "Explode Coração," a ballad that became widely popular in Brazil.
He kept recording through the 1990s and 2000s, with albums like "Eu Não Sou o Cara" and "Sete." Some listeners felt his approach to samba was too commercial, but he maintained a steady output. These days he still performs with a band that includes guitarist Claudio Tuffano and percussionist Rafael Barata.
