Edvan Júnior came up in Juazeiro do Norte, Ceará, a town known for its deep roots in forró. His music leans into that tradition, but he built his name on a single song, "Possessa," which became a breakout hit in 2014. The track's themes of spiritual possession and its haunting delivery struck a chord, pulling listeners in while also drawing criticism from some quarters.

He's faced legal challenges and even death threats over accusations that his work exploits religious imagery. Edvan Júnior has maintained that his music simply reflects his own spiritual experiences. He performs with a band that includes João Almeida on lead guitar, Felipe Sousa on bass, and Aderaldo Filho on drums, with Edvan himself handling vocals and accordion.

His later albums, like 2016's "O Acordeonista do Diabo," continued to explore darker, introspective territory. By 2018's "O Meu Coração," he had shifted back toward more traditional forró rhythms.
