Efeito Colateral formed in São Paulo in 2004, with Marcos Almeida on vocals, Danilo Maia on guitar, Fabio Bicalho on bass, and Rafael de Paula on drums. They started playing hardcore and metal in small local venues, working through the usual early struggles of a new band.
Their 2010 album 'Dificuldade' gave them a breakout moment, with the title track becoming something of an anthem. They followed it with albums like 'Ascensão' in 2013, which kept their hardcore foundation but let in some metal and rock textures.
Songs like 'Mundo Hóstil' and 'Furor' show what they do well: direct, aggressive music that doesn't shy away from difficult themes. They've kept at it long enough to build a catalog that feels consistent, if not always easy.
Keep it compact: a lyric you come back to, a live memory, or the part of the catalog you would point someone toward first.
