Archive material and source history

Egarra formed in 2002 in Spain with vocalist Aitor Gúrpide, guitarist Xabi Pérez, bassist Iñaki Ortiz de Villalba, and drummer Egoi Martínez. Their name comes from an ancient Basque word for 'enemy.' They released their debut album 'The Dawn of a New Era' in 2005, which included the track 'Bloodhaven.'

'Bloodhaven' became their most recognized song, with lyrics about a nightmarish asylum. The band followed with 'Vision of Despair' in 2008 and 'The Curse of the Past' in 2013. They've described their music as blending heavy metal, gothic rock, and progressive elements.

In 2013, Egarra faced a legal challenge over their name from a Basque nationalist party, but were able to keep using it. They released another album called 'Bloodhaven' in 2016, which included both 'Bloodhaven' and 'Genosha' among its tracks.
