Eklipse de Amor formed in León, Guanajuato in 1976 with founding members Mario "Mayito" García on vocals and guitar, Carlos García on bass, José "Pepe" Sánchez on drums, and Jorge "Pocho" Romo on keyboards. They weren't trying to reinvent anything, just playing the music they liked.
Their 1978 song "Sureñita Bonita" became their most recognizable track, the kind of tune that gets passed down through families at gatherings. The band released several albums through the late 70s and 80s, including "Sueño Celestial" in 1980 and "Corazón de Acero" in 1985.
Like many groups that stick around, Eklipse de Amor saw lineup changes over time. The current version includes Mayito García still on vocals and guitar, with Luis "Lucho" García on bass, Julián "Julito" García on drums, and Roberto "Beto" García on keyboards.
