Ekron Cult formed in 2015 when guitarist and vocalist Torsten Gutschmidt teamed up with bassist Jan-Ole Wendt. They started playing a particularly aggressive style of thrash metal, and early on they had trouble finding the right drummer and getting consistent reactions at shows. They kept at it, though, and eventually Marcel Drews joined on drums.
Their albums include 'Negative Apathy' from 2017, 'Ethereal' from 2019, and 'Narcissistic Divine' from 2021. Some of their songs, like 'Disciple of the Horned' and 'March over Death,' are built around fast riffs and harsh vocals. They also recorded a cover of Sodom's 'Burst Command til War.'
Their lyrics tend toward dark and violent imagery, which has drawn criticism at times. The band has generally responded by saying they're just exploring those themes as part of their artistic approach. They've built a following among listeners who connect with that unrelenting style.
