El Absurdo Rock formed in Buenos Aires in the early 2000s around frontman Mario "Pogo" Carbone and guitarist Nicolás "Rufo" Lifschitz. They were later joined by bassist Hernán "Pichu" Rufet and drummer Sebastián "Villa" Martinez. The band put out their first album, El Mundo de los Absurdos, in 2002.
Their 2004 album Noches Iguales gave them their most recognizable song, the title track. The band's sound mixed rock with punk and reggae elements, and their lyrics sometimes drew criticism for being outspoken. In 2006, a concert in Mendoza was cancelled over concerns about their material.
El Absurdo Rock kept recording through the 2000s and into the 2010s with albums like La Flor del Asfalto, Soldados de la Locura, and Sueños de Resistencia.
