El Descendente formed in the early 1970s around vocalist and composer Javier Bátiz, with guitarist Arturo Medeles, bassist Ricardo Elorza, and drummer Salvador 'El Chavo' Rodríguez. Their debut album 'Llueve' came out in 1975, and its title track became a classic ballad about heartbreak that helped establish them as a leading band of that era in Mexico.
They released several albums through the late 1970s and early 1980s, including 'Razones de Peso' in 1977 and 'La Granja' in 1983.
Bátiz struggled with substance abuse during this period, which created ongoing difficulties for the band. Their music blended rock and blues with traditional Mexican rhythms, influenced by bands like Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd.
