Enrique Villarreal, known as El Drogas, first made his name in the 1980s as the frontman for the punk bands Txarrena and Barricada. Kutxi Romero and Juan Carlos Aizpio, who goes by Killer, came up through the Basque rock scene around the same time. The three eventually formed a trio together, releasing their first album 'Aitzina Rock 'n' Roll' in 1996.
Their song 'Askatasun Taupadak' became something of an anthem, with its title translating to 'Rhythm of Freedom.' They followed that debut with albums like 'Demasiado Humano' in 1998 and 'La Tierra Está Sorda' in 2005. The music pulled from punk and rock, with some traditional Basque elements mixed in.
Their lyrics often dealt with social issues and personal freedom, which sometimes drew criticism from more conservative corners. But they kept at it, with Villarreal on vocals and guitar, Romero on vocals and guitar, and Killer on bass.
