El Mismisimo formed in Mexico City in 1994, led by vocalist and composer Alejandro Lora. They released their first album 'Entrega Total' the following year. Their song 'Besar Primero' came out in 1999 and became one of their better-known tracks.
In 2010, the band found themselves in a public dispute with the Mexican government over the unauthorized use of 'Besar Primero' in a political advertisement. The disagreement highlighted some of the tensions between artists and political entities in Mexico at the time.
The group's lineup included vocalist Cecilia Toussaint and pianist Armando Manzanero alongside Lora. They performed live shows including a 2009 concert at the Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City.
