Archive material and source history
El Monje formed in Mexico City, originally calling themselves Los Monjes. Their 1994 debut album featured the track "Pensando En Ti," which became a hit. The band's lyrics and image sometimes drew accusations of promoting drug use or Satanism, which they denied.
Leonardo de Lozanne has been the frontman, with Victor Indrizzo on drums and Alex Otaola on bass. Their music mixed rock with pop and traditional Mexican sounds. Later albums included "Ave María" in 1996 and "El Monje Deluxe" in 1998.
They kept a relatively steady lineup over time. The band released several more records, like the self-titled "El Monje" in 2001 and a live album in 2006.
