El Mono Betancur formed in Medellín, Colombia in the mid-1990s, led by vocalist Mono Betancur. Their debut album came out in 2002, sharing its name with the song 'Si Te Hubiera Perdonado' that became their breakthrough track.
That album's title track was a ballad that found an audience in Colombia, pulling together rock elements with local rhythms. The band's lineup has included guitarists Juan Pablo Villa and Alejandro Ochoa, bassist Mauricio Betancur, drummer Fernando Tobón, and keyboardist Juan Camilo Osorio.
They put out several albums after that first one, including 'Domingo' in 2004, 'Todo Se Va' in 2006, and 'Frágil' in 2010.
