El Mouse formed in 1993 as a Mexican rock band. Their breakthrough came with the 1995 single "POLICÍA, POLICÍA," a direct critique of police corruption that connected with listeners across the country. The song's blunt lyrics and driving rhythm made it a staple of Mexican rock radio in the mid-90s.
The original lineup featured Armando Palomas on vocals and guitar, Enrique Gutiérrez on drums, and Juan Carlos Flores on bass. They released four studio albums between 1995 and 2001, starting with their self-titled debut. Their sound pulled from rock and ska, sometimes incorporating elements of traditional Mexican corridos.
"POLICÍA, POLICÍA" faced censorship in some countries due to its subject matter. In 1997, Palomas was arrested for allegedly assaulting a police officer. By 1999, both Gutiérrez and Flores had left the band amid internal disputes, leading to lineup changes. Palomas has continued as the frontman with different musicians, and the band still performs.
