El Muffa

El Muffa formed in Lima in the late 1990s, a Peruvian rock band with Sofia Buitron on vocals and guitar, Marco Panduro on bass, and Julio Garay on drums. Their first album came out in 1998, the same year they released 'Otra Vez,' a song that caught on with listeners and became their best-known track.

They put out records fairly regularly over the next twenty years, including La Hora Azul in 2001, Limbo in 2004, and La Falta in 2015. Their sound pulled from alternative rock and shoegaze, with a moody, atmospheric quality that stood apart from more mainstream Peruvian music at the time.

While they faced some early criticism for being too introspective, they developed a steady following. The band kept working, releasing a 20th-anniversary album in 2018. Their music, particularly songs like 'Otra Vez,' found a place in Peru's rock landscape without much of the dramatic rise-and-fall narrative that sometimes gets attached to bands.
