El Purre formed in Buenos Aires around 2009, with Francisco Díaz on vocals and Agustín Costa on guitar. They started playing local bars and festivals, building a following they called the Purristas. Their first album, Te Doy Mi Palabra, came out in 2012.
Songs like Voy a Creer and No Es Real show their mix of cumbia, reggae, and rock. They worked with other Argentine artists, including Pilar Pascual on Ley de Newton. In 2018 they released another album, also called Voy a Creer.
Some of their lyrics have drawn attention for how directly they talk about social issues. Back in 2015, a track called Marihuana got some pushback for its subject matter. They kept writing that way anyway.
